General Information

The United Nations recently hosted the first annual Sustainable Energy for All Forum in New York, under the leadership of the United Nations Secretary General; HE Ban Ki-Moon, the President of the World Bank Group; Dr. Jim Yong Kim and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General and CEO, Sustainable Energy for All; Dr. Kandeh Yumkella (who is also Chair, UN Energy and ICON for the Africa Clean Energy Summit).

The United Nations Decade for Sustainable Energy for All (2014-2024) was equally launched at the Forum; highlighting the need to improve access to reliable, affordable, economically viable, socially acceptable and environmentally sound energy services and resources for sustainable development.

In line with the mandate of doubling the share of renewable energy – a reality for Africa, the first Africa Clean Energy Summit will hold in Abuja, Nigeria in September, 2014, under the leadership of HE Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, and in partnership with strategic development partners and major stakeholders under the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative.
