… NIGERIAN YOUTH, BANKOLE, DONATES COOKSTOVES TO RURAL AND URBAN WOMEN IN NIGERIA

Nigeria last Saturday in Lagos commenced the distribution of clean cookstoves to rural and urban women in the country, as part of the one million units of clean cookstoves to be distributed nationwide under the Rebranding Climate Change Clean Cookstoves Initiative.

Speaking while presenting the cookstoves on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Health and its Strategic Partners, theChief Operating Director of the Africa Clean Energy Summit, Mr. Olawale Akinwumi said the collaborators have put together this intervention initiative to reduce indoor air pollution and save over 95,000 annual deaths of women and children in Nigeria. According to him, a minimum of One million clean Cookstoves would be deployed and distributed to women in Nigeria at no cost to the beneficiaries, under the Rebranding Climate Change Clean Cookstoves Initiative.

Akinwumi said the Rebranding Climate Change Clean Cookstoves Initiative is one of the intervention strategies as contained in the Memorandum of Understanding between theFederal Ministry of Health and the Africa Clean Energy Summit (the consortium of Always Green Power & Systems Limited and The Environment Communications Limited) on the Rebranding of the impact of Climate Change on health as a Public Health Issue in Nigeria.

FREE CLEAN COOKSTOVES DISTRIBUTION BEGINS IN NIGERIA donor bankoleThe Rebranding Climate Change Clean Cookstoves Initiative took off at the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Secretariat in Lagos on Saturday 20th June, 2015 on the platform of theCaregivers Christian Ministry International, a care, help and planet not for profit faith based organization.

Before the presentation of the cookstoves, a team from the Envirofit International came around for a demonstration exercise of Envirofit clean cookstoves to educate over 450 participants on clean and safe cooking.

Ten Envirofit clean cookstoves, sponsored by a Green Ambassador and Coordinator of Young People for a Better Climate, Mr. Bankole Olufisayo were later presented to rural and urban women after the demonstration exercise.

While commending the donor, Mr. Bankole Olufisayo for supporting the Federal Government Clean Cookstoves Initiative, Akinwumi called on other stakeholders and corporate organizations to be part of the clean cookstoves distribution programme, as the train moves from communities to communities in the coming days.
